Saturday morning was the baptism. My sister had set up a really cute table with a baptism book for Jade that everyone who attended could sign.
Then I gave Jade her present from Andrew and I. We got her a white towel with her name and baptism date embroidered in her favorite color on it that she could use after she came out of the font. I think she really liked it and now she can always remember that special date in her life.
It was really special to be there and see how excited she was. :)
After the baptism we all went back to my sister's house. She fixed everyone a really nice lunch and she and Sam had made Jade the most adorable cake!
When all the friends had gone, Sam and Heidi wanted to show us around post. I was impressed with all it offered and I can see why they love it there. We had a good time seeing the sights. :)
Late that afternoon, we decided it was time to head back to Kansas City, MO. We had planned to spend the night there because our flight back to SLC left very early Sunday morning. I'm so glad we were able to go and visit though. Now that they live so far from us, we don't get to see them often enough and Sam deploys in June. What a fun long weekend!
My niece Jade turned 8 years old the first part of March and was going to be baptized. She lives in Kansas and since Andrew and I had never been to Kansas and had only been to the St. Louis airport in Missouri, we decided it would be fun to go and be there for her special day. So on Thursday, March 6 we flew from SLC to Denver and from Denver to Kansas City, MO. We got in late Thursday night so we spent the night in Kansas City.
Friday morning Andrew discovered there was a Waffle House nearby and since this is something we discovered on our last trip through Ohio, he wanted to have breakfast there. (They do have really good grilled biscuits. ;) )
Our rental car.
My parents were flying in later Friday morning so after breakfast we relaxed a little bit, did some sightseeing and some souvenir shopping. :)
Kansas River meeting up with the Missouri River.
Then we met up with them for a famous Kansas City barbecue lunch! We ate at Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue. It had great reviews and it did not disappoint!
This location is a historic converted freight house so it was pretty neat inside.
Andrew's plate. He got a sampler platter of 4 different meats!
After lunch we left Kansas City for Fort Riley, KS, but first we passed through Kansas City, KS and a toll road on the way. ;)
We visited with my sister's family for a while Saturday evening in Fort Riley and spent the night just off post in Junction City, KS.
Since I won the giveaway last month, I was supposed to be the hostess and in charge of the giveaway for swap this month, but Andrew and I had a trip planned and were leaving the night of swap so Kim offered to be the hostess and when she wins the giveaway, I'll take my turn. :) Thanks, Kim!
The night before swap, I dropped everything off at Kim's house. I had swapped for Katie's towel last month. She hadn't had a chance to get her quote embroidered on it by the first swap, but she had marked a spot for it so I embroidered my name on the opposite side. I think my name turned out pretty cute on hers though. ;)
For the giveaway I decided to do an embroidery marking pen and an embroidery hoop. I got my favorite kind of hoop that has pinchers instead of a screw to tighten the fabric while embroidering. Kim told me Angie won the giveaway and I hope she loved it. :)
