September Mini Quilt

When my grandma came for a visit in May, she brought a fun pattern with her along with a bunch of fabric and she and my mom decided it might be fun project for them and my sisters and I to do all together. :) So they gave us all the fabric we would need and gave us each a copy of the pattern. Since my sister Heidi was in the middle of a move at that point, we decided to start in August with the September quilt block and I thought it would be a fun idea if we all posted pictures on our blogs of the blocks we make to try and keep us motivated! As my blog title says, I'll be making mine into mini quilts so I'll have one to change out every month, but some are going to sew their blocks all together at the end of the 12 months into one big quilt. The plan is at the end of the 12 months, we'll all try to get together and finish. My mini quilts will each need batting, fabric for the back and 2 loops at the top to hang them onto a dowel holder to finish. Here's a picture of the dowel holder I ordered and those who know me well, know why it was the dowel holder for me. ;) I love pineapples!

I was nervous to start this project because I've never sewn a quilt block before, but my mom talked me through it and I feel pretty confident now. Can't wait to start my next one!

Snowbird Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is going on at Snowbird right now and since we still needed to use our Stay & Play passes from our anniversary in July, we decided now would be a great time to go!

Once there we got to walk around all the little Oktoberfest booths and then we used our Stay & Play passes to get wristbands to go on the Peruvian Chairlift and the Aerial Tram. After soaring through the mountain, which I absolutely love :), and seeing 6 deer, 1 moose and several rock chucks and squirrels, we got Belgium waffles on a stick and Andrew had a bratwurst with a brewed root beer.

Such a fun day and we just love the weather up there. Absolutely perfect!

Our Garden 2013

Most years we plant a small garden. Just enough space for raspberries, a couple tomato plants and the mini pumpkins that I love to grow every year for decoration in my house in the fall. Usually our garden does well, but this year, I can't even describe how well it's done. My two mini pumpkins plants have taken over! There are so many in there, I can't even see them all. Some are even ready to be picked, but I'm trying to hold off until the first of September at least. :)

No raspberries yet, but they're coming on. Andrew has picked several tomatoes and I'll post later with a picture of all the mini pumpkins that I get!

As you can see my mini pumpkins are growing right next to the tomatoes because they took over that space too!

Happy Fall!

August Swap Night

This month it was my turn to host swap night at my house! I again found my vintage dish towel to swap off of Etsy in The Coin Laundry shop.

The dish towel I received was from Katie. She's still doing a little stitching on it though so I'll post pictures of it when I get it back from her. :)

Since it was my turn to host, it was also my turn to do the giveaway. I had found this cute punched tin lantern at the DI a few weeks ago so I cleaned it up really nice and Sarah won it! I hope she loves it!

The treats I served were my favorite Molasses Crinkles cookies and Fresh-Squeezed Lemonade. Yum! If I do say so myself. ;)

Until next month!

**Update!**

I got my vintage dish towel back from Katie during our September Swap Night. I told her it was adorable! Here's what it looks like:

Totally adorable!

Sundance Summer Theatre

Seeing plays every summer at Sundance Mountain Resort is something my parents have done since I was about 8 years old. I can't remember for sure, but I think I saw my first play there the summer I was 16. Then Andrew and I were able to go the week before we were married in the summer of 1999 and that is the last time anyone in my family has been. Sundance Summer Theatre closed in 2003, but then reopened a few years later in 2008 and ever since then, I've been wanting to go back. We finally made it this year and what made it even more special is that my parents were able to go with Andrew and I. :) Now I hope it's a family tradition that will continue again every summer from here on out!

Waiting in line for the tractor to take us up the steep hill to the theatre.

It was much steeper than it looks!

BBQ Dinner (Note the cheese in Andrew's hand ;). )

We saw Annie Get Your Gun and it was really great!

Can't wait to see what production they put on next year!
