Last Thursday night we got together again for book club. I chose this
month's book, "Caribbean Crossroads" by Connie E. Sokol.
New college grad Megan McCormick just got dumped. Hard. Swearing off men and
relationships, Megan is coaxed into performing on a cruise ship where she meets
the star performer, Bryant Johnson. Handsome and charismatic, he looks like
trouble, but she can't deny the intense attraction between them. Urged to find a
wife and run the family lumber business, Bryant is torn between his family's
expectations for his life and his own. However, when he meets spunky, but
love-skittish Megan McCormick, settling down doesn't look so bad. Just when
Megan begins to trust again, and Bryant makes some big decisions regarding his
future, her former fiance returns with a malicious surprise, taking Megan and
Bryant to their own CARIBBEAN CROSSROADS.
Since I chose the book, that made it my turn to host the book club at my house. :)
I made Sweet 'N Salty Caramel Mousse Cups to eat while we discussed
the book. I also served hot chocolate with whipped cream and mini marshmallows since the fall weather is definitely here! Until next month!
New Happy Birthday Blocks I put together this week from The Idea Closet. My favorite part about this kit is the chalkboard vinyl on the end block. I can write each of our names and birthdays on it in chalk when I get this kit out in our birthday months. :)
A few weekends ago my sister Leisa came out to visit my parents and asked me if I wanted to craft with her while she was here. Of course I agreed! She had seen these antiqued pumpkins on a blog she follows and wanted to make them so I helped her get everything we needed and that weekend we started. They were way more work than we thought they would be, but in the end it was worth it because they turned out so great! Thanks, Leisa, for such a fun project. I loved spending that time with you and mom!
Last Thursday Andrew and I finally got the chance to go to the corn maze. We had been trying for weeks, but it has been a busy fall season! This year we were able to go during the day, which is something we've never done before. Because we were there when it was light, Andrew was able to shoot these fun guns filled with corn and mini pumpkins. He had a blast and actually hit the big pig in the back of the truck out there in the field. He won some fruit snacks from the concession stand for that! ;)
Then we found our way through the maze...actually it was much easier in the daylight!
Yesterday Andrew surprised me with a rose after work. He's so sweet when he does this! When I opened the door he said it was from him and Amber, thus the paw print ribbon. ;) Then he confessed that this rose was just the best looking rose in the floral cooler and he hadn't even thought of it having anything to do with the local high school out here (the Union Cougars where the school colors are black and gold) until I pointed it out. Oops! Too funny, but I love him for it!
Two weeks ago our swap group met for the month. Lewaina was hosting and since it was our October swap, she asked us to come dressed in costume. My costume for this year wasn't ready yet so I just pulled out my Mardi Gras beads and mask from the Mardi Gras Murder Mystery Dinner we went to last year.
Our theme for October was Halloween. The tuck I made is above and the one I came home with is below. I got Lewaina's tuck this month and I can't even express how much I love it! When I saw that it had Emillio's name on it, tears literally sprang to my eyes. Thank you, Lewaina, for such an adorable and very personalized tuck. :)
