September Book Club

Last night we got together again for book club. Randi chose this month's book, "Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder" by Joanne Fluke.

Hannah already has her hands full trying to dodge her mother's attempts to marry her off while running The Cookie Jar, Lake Eden's most popular bakery. But once Ron LaSalle, the beloved delivery man from the Cozy Cow Dairy, is found murdered behind her bakery with Hannah's famous Chocolate Chip Crunchies scattered around him, her life just can't get any worse. Determined not to let her cookies get a bad reputation, she sets out to track down a killer. But if she doesn't watch her back, Hannah's sweet life may get burned to a crisp.

Randi fed us dinner while we discussed the book and then we had a cookie swap! Throughout the book there were several cookie recipes and after our last book club meeting, Randi had asked us to chose a cookie recipe from the book, make them and bring them this month to share with everyone. It was really fun to try some of the cookies we had read about in the story. :) I made Regency Ginger Crisps, Randy made Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies, Savannah made Black and Whites and Vanessa made Chocolate Chip Crunch Cookies and Pecan Chews for herself and Tammy to bring. Until next month when it's my turn to host!

September Tuck Swap

Tuesday night our swap group met for the month. Our theme for September was Fall. The tuck I made is above and the one I received is below. I got Sarah's tuck this month and I love it! She is such an incredible seamstress, but I also adore how full her tucks are. Mine just never turn out like that!

It was also my turn to host the swap group at my house! I decided to make pumpkin chocolate chip cakelets in my fall cakelets pan from Williams Sonoma. I think they turned out pretty cute. :)

My New Niece ~ Taylor Kate Heward ~

Taylor Kate Heward
Born: September 2, 2012
Weight: 5 lbs 14 oz
Length: 18 in

My new niece arrived last Sunday night and I was so excited!

So I'm an aunt...again! Congratulations, Doug and Misty. I love you both and my new niece Taylor!

I have to say that being an aunt is better than I could have ever imagined and that is due in part to my wonderful brother and sisters for allowing me be such an integral part of their children's lives. They will never know how much it means to me. I have 2 nephews and 5 nieces now and I love them all so much. :)

Airplane Birthday Cake

My nephew Will turned one on August 31, but we had his airplane-themed birthday party the weekend before and my sister Leisa asked me to help her make his airplane birthday cake. She bought the pan and had the cake and buttercream all made when I got there a few hours before the party. Then we got to work decorating! She and I both worked on it and even my mom did some stars. :) It was fun doing it together, it went a lot faster than if I had done it myself and most importantly, it turned out super cute! I love using my cake decorating skills and I loved teaching my sister a few new tricks too. ;)

Since my sister wasn't sure how many people were coming to the party, she decided to make some cupcakes as well. I got to frost them using a new technique I learned on Pinterest. How cute are these?! I'll definitely be using this technique again. :)
