Yard Sale 2012

This past week I really got the cleaning bug and decided to finish cleaning out my house. When I saw the pile I wanted to yard sale, I decided to just do one on my own so last Saturday Andrew and I set everything out. I advertised on 2 Facebook yard sale groups, made a poster for the community bulletin board and signs for the roads by our house and then we waited... I didn't have the early birds that I guess you get from advertising in the Nickel Ads so I was starting to get nervous, but turns out there was no need because we had plenty of people show up and we sold a lot of stuff! So much stuff that I didn't feel bad about packing the rest up and donating it to D.I. :) It feels so good around here now!

July Book Club

Last Thursday night we got together again for book club. We've added a few new people to book club...Tammy and Vanessa, who are Savannah's mom and sister. Tammy chose this month's book, "The Litigators" by John Grisham.

The partners at Finley & Figg—all two of them—often refer to themselves as “a boutique law firm.” Boutique, as in chic, selective, and prosperous. They are, of course, none of these things. What they are is a two-bit operation always in search of their big break, ambulance chasers who’ve been in the trenches much too long making way too little. Their specialties, so to speak, are quickie divorces and DUIs, with the occasional jackpot of an actual car wreck thrown in. After twenty plus years together, Oscar Finley and Wally Figg bicker like an old married couple but somehow continue to scratch out a half-decent living from their seedy bungalow offices in southwest Chicago.

And then change comes their way. More accurately, it stumbles in. David Zinc, a young but already burned-out attorney, walks away from his fast-track career at a fancy downtown firm, goes on a serious bender, and finds himself literally at the doorstep of our boutique firm. Once David sobers up and comes to grips with the fact that he’s suddenly unemployed, any job—even one with Finley & Figg—looks okay to him.

With their new associate on board, F&F is ready to tackle a really big case, a case that could make the partners rich without requiring them to actually practice much law. An extremely popular drug, Krayoxx, the number one cholesterol reducer for the dangerously overweight, produced by Varrick Labs, a giant pharmaceutical company with annual sales of $25 billion, has recently come under fire after several patients taking it have suffered heart attacks. Wally smells money.

A little online research confirms Wally’s suspicions—a huge plaintiffs’ firm in Florida is putting together a class action suit against Varrick. All Finley & Figg has to do is find a handful of people who have had heart attacks while taking Krayoxx, convince them to become clients, join the class action, and ride along to fame and fortune. With any luck, they won’t even have to enter a courtroom!

It almost seems too good to be true.

And it is.

Tammy fed us dinner while we discussed the book and even made us homemade ice cream! Until next month!

Flying to Spanish Fork Airport

The next day, when Dale was flying back to Spanish Fork, he had invited Andrew to fly with him. Andrew was so excited for the opportunity so I agreed to drive out ahead of them so I could meet them at the airport that afternoon. Honestly, how many opportunities like this come along? :) Here are all of Andrew's pictures from the flight. Dale is also a big BYU fan so they both agreed flying over LaVell Edwards Stadium was a must!

Thanks again, Dale!

Flying at Roosevelt Municipal Airport

My BIL Dale is a pilot working on getting enough flying hours to apply for a job with a major airline so he flies pretty often. Last Thursday afternoon he decided to fly from Spanish Fork to Roosevelt and spend the night so he offered to take a few of us for a ride when he arrived. First my dad went up and they flew to Neola so they could fly over my parents house. Andrew went up next and they flew over our house, his brother's house and his parents house. Dale even let Andrew fly the plane for a few minutes and Andrew was in heaven! I didn't think they were ever going to come down from the sky. :) I went up last and we flew over my house and where I work. It was such an amazing experience! Thanks so much, Dale!
