June Tuck Swap

Last night was our first tuck swap! Our theme for June was Summer. The one I made is above and the one I came home with is below. I ended up getting my SIL Kim's tuck, which I was really excited about because anything she makes is cute, but also I love Mary Engelbreit anything!

Our tuck had to be about the size of a DVD case and this month we had to bring our tucks wrapped. We played a little game trading our tucks left and right according to a story that was read to see which one we would end up with. This swap group has been so fun and I'm so excited to continue for another year!

Cake Decorating Class Week 3

Last night at cake decorating class we learned how to make 2 different flowers and 2 different leaves along with learning how to do dots to put in the center of the flowers all with royal icing. I felt like I did a pretty good job with the flowers so now I'm really excited to take my teacher's Flowers and Borders class sometime this summer!

Remember This?

Remember this cute canister that Andrew gave me? The flowers inside lasted for over a week, but eventually it was time to throw them out. So I emailed my old neighbor and good friend Ashlee and she cut me some vinyl lettering. Now the canister looks like this and is perfect for holding my coffee so I always have some on hand when I feel like doing some coffee staining. :)

Cirque du Soleil Alegria

I saw Cirque du Soleil Alegria this past weekend and I'm think I'm officially addicted to these amazing shows! If you want a small preview of how amazing the show was check out this link.

This was one of the many trailers parked around the E Center where the show was held. It would take a lot of trailers to move this show around the world!

Unfortunately no cameras were allowed at the venue. We took a couple pictures with our cell phones inside before and after the show, but they are not the best quality.

I would love to see my next Cirque show in Las Vegas. Now that would be amazing!

Practicing Cupcakes

Andrew and I have dinner once a week with Brandon and Kim (Andrew's brother and SIL). It's something we've been doing I think for about 7 months now and something we really enjoy. We trade off every week going to each others house and making either dinner or dessert. This week was my turn to bring dessert and I decided to bring cupcakes so I could practice one of my new skills from cake decorating class. They were fun to make and delicious...if I do say so myself!

Cake Decorating Class Week 2

For this week's cake decorating class we learned how to do a zigzag border and a curved line border along with learning how to make stars and I tried a few shells again too.

Then our big project this week was a bear cake. First we evened out the bottom of the cake and used buttercream to stick it to our cake board.

I chose to make a brown bear so I used white buttercream to make his ears, eyes, nose and feet. Then I colored my buttercream brown and used the star tip to add "fur". Since I didn't think the bear was girly enough I added a purple mouth and eyes and a bow on her head.

Here are all the bears that were made tonight. Most are much better than mine. Oh well!

We also did a group picture with our cakes that I really like!

Next week we have to bring our own royal icing and we're going to learn how to make flowers!

Mud Puddle

This past weekend we had a sudden downpour. Amber was out in the backyard on her chain and when we looked out the window after the rain had gone, this is what we found...Amber standing in a big mud puddle :)

Cake Decorating Class Week 1

I have signed up for Cake Decorating Classes for the next 4 weeks with my SIL Kim and my cousin Savannah. Tuesday night was the first class and I was excited! First we learned how to make buttercream in a mixer and chocolate buttercream with a hand mixer. Then we learned how to cut the top of a cake so it is flat and make it into a layer cake with fruit filling in between using tip 789 to frost the cake. We then learned how to pipe different styles of writing and we practiced piping a shell border with tip 21.

Then we used tip 230 to "inject" cupcakes with fruit filling...

...and then used tip 1M to frost the cupcakes like the top of an ice cream cone!

My second cupcake is the one in the center.
My first cupcake is the one directly above it to the left.
As you can tell I learned to apply more pressure for a fuller frosted cupcake!

At the end of the night our instructor did a drawing and I won tip 1M so I can frost my own cupcakes at home. For the class we purchased Wilton decorating kits for $45, but the tip I won wasn't included in my kit. Yeah!

Next week we have to bring our own buttercream. We'll learn how to properly color it and then use it to decorate a bear cake.

Sisters and Friends

My sweet SIL Kim gave this gift to me for Mother's Day. Kim is one of the most talented women I know and I absolutely love anything that she makes especially with me in mind. ;) I'm so lucky to have her as a sister and a friend and this is something I will love forever.

Andrew's Best Friend

Andrew has had his dog Amber for a few months now. He really enjoys having her and Amber loves Andrew. This past weekend Andrew was planting some flowers and Amber was close by the whole time just watching.

Andrew would play with Amber whenever he walked by...

...and on his way back Amber followed right by his side.

Then Andrew decided to spray Amber down with the hose. She wasn't sure about the water at first, but Andrew thought she enjoyed it in the end. Here she is all wet.

A Sweet Husband

This upcoming Sunday is a tough one for me every year. I usually try to keep my heartaches inside though because I love all the mothers in my life and they deserve to be honored. But today Andrew brought me this gorgeous flower arrangement in the cutest canister just as a surprise and to let me know how happy he is that he married me and that he loves me. I don't think life can get much better than this. Andrew, I feel so lucky that you are my husband. I love you so much. ♥

Update!

I wanted to post a new picture of my flowers and show how big some of the roses are since they have opened up more. Absolutely gorgeous!
