Carribean Cruise Vacation Day 5 - Roatan, Honduras

Here we are in Roatan, which is an island about 30 miles off the coast of Honduras. Carnival has built a dock there on the island called Mahogany Bay so we were able to get right off the ship and not have to tender.

Map showing the shape of the island.

A pineapple carved out of wood outside of a restaurant.

We did an excursion here with most of the family (minus Sam and Heidi who did another excursion). First we took a bus ride and saw some of the island. This is a big mansion on the island...

...but most of the island lives more like this.

This is a mahogany tree. We were able to bring home some souvenirs from the island made of mahogany.

Our tour guide.

First stop on the island was at a lookout. The island is very green and beautiful.

We could also buy some souvenirs if we wanted too.

Next stop was meeting the native Garifuna people. They did a short show for us and Andrew got the chance to get up and dance with them.

Then we were able to take a short boat ride around the island and see some visible shipwrecks.

Excuse the not very excited smile. It was extremely hot on the boat!

This is a mangrove tree. They are all around the island and they help protect the island in the event of a hurricane.

Our ship off in the distance.

After our boat ride, we went into a small store where this little guy was running around inside. The owner of the store picked him and allowed him to bite his finger. It didn't hurt him, but it did give us a chance to take a picture of him.

Andrew enjoying some Honduran Pepsi. Andrew said it didn't taste the same, but he still enjoyed it and the different shape of the bottle.

We did some shopping after the tour was over and headed back on the ship after a fun day in Roatan.

Tonight's towel animal was a bunny.

  1. I've heard that each company has a slightly different recipe for their soda pops, but I can't remember why. I think it has to do with whats considered legal or safe in each country, or maybe just the ingredients that are readily available.
It must have been hot, I noticed you're was pulled back in a few of the pictures.
